PAIN.

Dear You,
“People go through so much pain trying to avoid pain.” – Neil Strauss
What is pain? Per definition it is an unpleasant sensation that can range from mild, localized discomfort to agony. Pain has both physical and emotional components. I’m certain as you read this you can attest to having experienced some type/kind of pain in your lifetime- possibly on multiple occasions, currently enduring it or you have overcome it.
Regardless of your position today, I am here to share that honoring your pain is absolutely necessary. To acknowledge your pain is to heal while ignoring it becomes harmful.
I have experienced how pain can feel unbearable, especially emotional pain. I have also been a product of harboring unhealed wounds with temporary fixes and have also felt the incredible empowerment in allowing that pain to channel through me until it no longer consumed me.
I want you to share a few things about pain: Your pain is yours to bear. It belongs to you. You must do what works best for you to either rid that pain or manage it, however, there is no timeframe; it is in your timing and at your pace. Allow yourself grace and remember that you are human- It can be a great day, good day, bad day, better day, best day, worst day… no matter what you still woke up to experience such “day” and that in itself is a blessing.
Pain exists and it always will. To FEAR it is one of two: Forget Everything And Run OR Face Everything and Rise. YOU will not forget nor will you run.
YOU WILL RISE.
I once read a phrase that stuck with me: “There are two types of pain: one that hurts you and one that changes you.” This hit home for me as I started to reflect on the differences between the two. Personally, I identified pain that hurt me as a physical inability, while pain that changed me as an emotional hindrance. However, both types of pains transformed me. You see, anytime we endure some type of “suffering”, we will always reflect on what had to have transpired in order for us to be in such position. We victimize and villainize, instigate and enable- regardless, we are contributors in some way.
As a “contributor” to pain, is it not also possible to be a contributor in reframing our minds to mentally stop pain? Absolutely!
Stay tuned for our next blog that will discuss ways to reframe your mind to help overcome pain and/or manage it.
LOVE TO LOVE, JM.
